I Wore You Like A Bruise
Do you know the meaning of a hematoma? A hematoma is a localized swelling that is filled with blood caused by a break in the wall of a blood vessel. In other words its what happens during an injury when the skin is unbroken yet the target bleeds anyway, on the inside. This phenomena is more commonly known as bruising. While the original insult may not be witnessed by nary a soul the end result is there for anyone with eyes to see. One walks around with the huge discoloration and just hopes that no one really notices. That type of evidence is also present as the result emotional cruelty. With the constant criticism, barbs, hyper-awareness being hurled towards me, mostly, it was like water off a ducks back, however, the fact that it did not always penetrate does not mean that it did not always do damage. Yes, one walks around with the huge discoloration and just hopes that no one really notices all the damage that has been done. You wonder why I never said anything? I wore you like a bruise.
