Mr. Martin, a storyteller, has also used stories to inspire classrooms and youth groups in both New York and California. While living in Rochester New York he founded the BEHOLD Theater group (he hopes to kick start this again) which introduced to youth to various disciplines within the arts, ranging from Poetry to Fencing. Recently retired from the Los Angeles Unified School District he plans on taking poetry, drumming and storytelling on the road to reach a broader audience. He is currently writing a film script with hopes of releasing it sometime in 2018. His most recent book “Jus Sayin’” released in June 2017 is a myriad of thoughts he has shared over social media over the past few years.

I just can’t sleep in a camp of hate. I have tried, God knows I have tried. And history has given me plenty of reasons to do so, but something in me won’t let me stay there. I will never love those who don’t love me, but I can’t hate a person based solely on what (or who) they look like. That’s a collection plate that I won’t contribute to.

For good or bad I’ve never been a group guy. Never enjoyed the crowds that seem to entice so many. Most of my lessons have come either through self-reflection or from conversations with individuals who really had something to say. There’s a difference between noise and necessary. I tend to favor the necessary.

I have been (and probably will always be) misunderstood. But if I am truly attempting to make my community a little better, a bit kinder I could give two shits about whether I follow someone’s protocol or not. I don’t like the world I’m seeing so I have to DO something…debating doesn’t fit in my definition of doing something.

I wasn’t really dangerous when I was fighting with my fists, but when I picked up a book and kept a pen nearby I became a nightmare. Become a nightmare to those who benefit from you using your fists instead of your mind. The smiles you create will surprise and touch you. Love
