We all get writerâs block at the worst times. How often have you had ideas while trying to fall asleep, driving in the car, or even in the shower? When it is finally time to gather those thoughts and put them down on paper â your mind goes blank.
Thank goodness there are many sites and social media pages that are filled with writing prompts to give us ideas and inspire us to write. Some do it for fun. Some do it to feature new and seasoned artists. Others may be looking for the next unique writer. So when you see a prompt as you scroll by, let it get your creative juices stirring.
WORD PROMPTS
One can use words in so many different ways. So donât take this prompt too literally. Get creative with the word given. Use it metaphorically in ways you have never read before. Be playful with it in a concrete poetry or even a poem for children.
PICTURE PROMPTS
Some people prefer responding to picture prompts as they are stimulated visually. You can get very creative with these as well. Instead of writing about the smells and serenity of a beach scene, perhaps be a grain in the sand being trampled by people and the crashing waves. Instead of stating the obvious, think outside of the box.
TOPIC CHALLENGES
Many sites will take advantage of the changing seasons or pick a specific topic and create a monthly challenge for writers. Participating in these are a great way to make your thoughts flow. See what others have written and use that as inspiration as well. Take the opposite stance or reply to what they have written in your poem.
Take advantage of Writing Prompts when you can. Youâd be surprised how many great poems can be produced from them. You can always come back to them later on and rewrite or let them inspire you to write even more. The most important thing is to Just keep that pen flowing

Love the beach perspective. Life as a grain of sand as opposed to the typical! Thanks for the tips!
