A Daughters Goodbye

As the sun shines through the window;
I see you fading with each forced breath.
No longer do you grasp my hand;
or respond when I gaze into your eyes.

The smell is overpowering;
many medicines drip through your veins.
Each minute, new blood enters your body;
taking away a piece of your soul.

There is no more life in your eyes;
only a shell of what you once were.
I know it is time to say goodbye father;
this is a choice I need to make.

I lay my head upon your heart;
listening carefully as it beats.
As I place my hand upon your cheek;
it becomes clear, what must be done.

As they remove all life support;
you snore gently as if in peaceful slumber.
Have no fear, as you will not be alone;
just pay attention and you will see.

I lean closer and whisper in your ear.
It is time now daddy, “take a walk with my brother”.
