A Red Terror in the Mountains by William Wright, Jr.

A mountain flares to life

With the rolling blaze

Of a beastly curse

Serpentine

He glows with crimson scales

Enraged

At the steel-plated swarms

In their thundering assault

They are meant

To spare what remains

Of the scorched sprawl of home

Their ever-green shires

In despair

The beast

He blares his wrath

As the armored unsheathe and storm

And savagery, boils in their blood

They charge into the fray

And are tragically engulfed

In bound, for eternity’s embrace

The serpent prevails once more

And claims the broad skies

From the bare blackened trees

That crumble, cascade, and weep

Who are you? Are you a brave knight? A warrior brandishing your sword, ready for battle. Are you a dreamer? Away with the fairies, losing count of fireflies whilst searching for Neverland. A goth? Who feels right at home with the monsters hiding under the bed, who loves to dance a dervish with the devil on the stroke of midnight. Or perhaps you are a dragon-slayer? Or a soul snatcher? Basking in the heat of an eternal flame. Or maybe you’re a witch? Hiding deep in the woods, practicing dark arts beneath the light of a full moon.
