Letting Go
I dreamt I saw you.
Perhaps I did see you
in the distance of my
imagination.
And I caught the moment
stilled in shock
and
held on to it.
I held it
and
the past held
for another moment,
our past,
and then I freed it
let it go
to fly
away
like a bird,
as if you
were a bird.

Today is the day
I believe the silence.
Today is the day
I take back me.

I stop giving you power.

I realize my worth.

I become a girl content with who she is.

I knock out my addiction for you.

I stop treading in your sea of broken promises.
Today is the day
I no longer drown in the lies.

I take back my tattered heart.

I quit loving you.

Once I let go of you
and all that you stood for
I was a prisoner no more

I count my scars as tears flow
trying very hard not to explode
in my mind’s eye I see the piles
of gifts so rare gained through time
and my scars seem all worthwhile
then I smile, cast out the access load
and tell my healing heart to just let go
