Momma said Baby you gone gave to grow a thick skin
People will treat you different
because they can’t be bothered to see what’s within
Daddy said there would be times
where your hands will have to look out for your behind
because everyone can’t handle what’s on your mind
you may have to put them to sleep at least one time
yet they wonder why I don’t say much.
See I choose not to waste my words
when I speak I want you to know
I meant what you heard
sometimes people speak loud without making a sound
easily mistaken for sitting back to simply observe
that’s when you start to hit raw nerves
watch the words people are demonstrating
some oblivious to what they are miscommunicating
then again they wonder why I don’t say much.
So much love out the mouths of babes
but you choose to take your hate to the grave
and force children to become mental slaves
showing them how you behave
making it so that no one will be saved
Oh but you look at me funny
because I didn’t come from money
and then tell me Oh it ain’t like that honey
you can’t help the situation until you get some education
meanwhile you’re missing what the children are facing
you wait for someone approved to co-sign
even though it’s logical in your own mind
when you look for excuses
so many of those you will always find
I mean people judge you anyway
many just let their words run away
some never listen or watch what they say
while others understand the ways words like to play
and know some words can’t just be washed away
yet they wonder why I don’t say much.
