Introduction
I am by far, an expert on love, but I can certainly share my point of view on love from my own experiences and observations. Love is easy. Love is difficult. Love takes time. Love can be quite complicated. It is one of those entities that you have to constantly learn from. It takes patience and many a sacrifice.
I was hesitant to release a book of love poetry as there are already so many out there, but more and more people seemed to react to those poems related to love. Could it be because so many crave a genuine love or because the world is so tangled up hate? Whatever the reason, I am honored to share this collection with the hope it touches one or more hearts.
I start with a chapter titled: Innuendos. These poems reveal a passionate love, for those who have loved the same person for years and still have fire in the relationship. My husband and I never go a day without saying I love you, communicate with each other daily and continue to have a healthy sexual relationship. The word “sex” is taboo for some Christians, but it is very sacred and meant to be enjoyed years after you are married. Studying The Song of Solomon inspired a few poems in this chapter.
The Monumental chapter consists of finding that soul mate; one who can give you genuine love amidst the flaws. We are all broken in some way, but it doesn’t mean we are unlovable. We just have to accept each other for who we are and there may be sacrifices along the way as you work toward love. As a couple, there is no 50/50. Each person needs to give 100% in the relationship in order for it to work.
The poems in Nourishment are messages for the world and those still learning how to love. I have been down that road where it is so much easier to hate and wake up with a bad attitude because life seems unfair. I often walked with a dark cloud hovering and I have many regrets for the way I used to treat people. Life is much simpler when we show love to our neighbors, coworkers and strangers on the street. You never know what someone may be going through and one smile, one hello, or one touch of affection may be all they need to make their day better.
My chapter called Venomous Drips may seem like a darker side of love, but these are some poems about growth and overcoming the pain it causes. It took a very long time to learn about the true meaning of love, and every bad experience has taught me that love is not at fault, people are. Bitter human beings are the ones tainting the beautiful meaning of the word. We all have a choice when it comes to loving the right way.
I hope after reading my book you are inspired to love a little more. Wherever you are, spread some love in your very own way. Change the world one life at a time with a little touch of love. – Donna J. Sanders
