I close my eyes
and think of you.
A little boy,
running free.
Pretending to be happy,
with not a care.
Wanting to protect,
you wipe away my tears.
You try to be strong,
and tell me it will be all right.
Your eyes say otherwise,
as they attempt to hide the pain.
A household of contradiction;
stepfather, preacher,
hypocrite, abuser.
Just smile big brother,
keep it all inside.
Someday, oh
someday you will be truly free.
God will welcome you;
into his embrace.
You will be Home,
never to pretend again.
