Masks by Tammy S. Thomas

We wear masks to protect us from harm

An armor, which is always on guard

No more wearing your heart on your sleeve

Wearing this mask to protect me from heartache and pain

Hiding the truth from ourselves,

Putting love up onto that shelf

Don’t let them see you put down your guard

Some of the things, I am always telling myself

Laugh now

And cry later

Behind those closed doors…

Once the mask is on there is no hurting anymore.
