Within the Winter of your mind
You can recall all the things
Your mother told you.
The child within can still remember
All the names of the stars.
In your heart time stands still.
What happened to that knowing child?
The one that counted seashells as treasure?
When did life drag him from his bed?
When did his dreams fall away
Like those Summer stars?
I see you sitting by the fire,
Your brow is creased in confusion.
Oh how the world plays tricks upon the mind!
For sometimes when you are lost in thought
I see that child again.

I was born and grew up in a small town in Oklahoma. Eventually I escaped to Kansas where I met the love of my life with whom I’ve been with for 25 years. We currently reside in Overland Park with three cats, my neglected poetic children, and this raccoon puppet. All in all, it is a good life!
