Interview – Book: Lost and Found

Creative Talents Unleashed: Hi Jill, thank you for agreeing to this interview.

Jill: I’m honored to have this opportunity. Thank you.

Creative Talents Unleashed: Tell us a little about yourself and your background?

Jill: I grew up with a Mother who loved to read and write. She instilled in me the love of
reading and writing. My Mother wrote several poems and kept them in a journal. She would read them to me when I would visit. I was about to have them published into a book, and in a moment of anger, my Mother burned the journal. Something I’ll never forget. My love of reading and writing continues today, and I don’t know that I could ever destroy all my work. So, I will keep on writing.

Creative Talents Unleashed: So, when did you fall in love with poetry or writing in general, when did you decide this life was for you? Tell us a bit about that discovery process.

Jill: Writing has always been a great cathartic experience for me, and has been for many
years. Wanting to publish a book was on my bucket list.

Creative Talents Unleashed: Why do you write, what is it that you’re trying to communicate through your work?

Jill: Life has so many twists and turns, and the writing seems to help me navigate life.
Whenever I have been lost, I returned to myself through my words. I felt compelled to share my experiences, in hope that someone else would find comfort and courage to move through whatever curve life is throwing their way.

Creative Talents Unleashed: Where does your inspiration come from, what might inspire you at any moment to write a story or poem?

Jill: First and foremost, feelings. Nature, people, a song, another poem, and various
other things…. moments…. everything is up for grabs! My Uncle gave me a poetry book,
written by Ella Wheeler, back in 1882. It belonged to his Father, my Grandfather. The first page I randomly opened to read from the book, was the poem, LA MORT D’AMOUR. The first poem I had penned for my book was, When Love Fades. It was haunting to read how Ella Wheeler’s poem and my poem parallel each other.

Lost and Found

Creative Talents Unleashed: What was the hardest thing about writing your book?

Jill: Narrowing down which poems out of several hundreds to submit for publishing. When I finally had selected the poems and put them into the proper format, something went wrong with my computer and I inadvertently pushed the wrong button and deleted the entire book! Ugh. But I worked and worked on trying to restore my files. Finally, I found something on line, and it worked! My work was recovered.

Creative Talents Unleashed: What was the easiest thing about writing your book?

Jill: Working with the people of CTU, the owner and other authors. Everyone made this a very easy and doable project.

Creative Talents Unleashed: There are many authors who say that in the process of writing a book you learn things about yourself. Did you learn anything in your book writing process about yourself, if so what?

Jill: Oh dear, where does one begin? I learned that I have a very deep and emotional
part of me that needed to come out and let itself be seen…. I had been holding back on my feelings and numbing myself over so many life events…. I learned how to be ok with my passions, feelings, and me….

Creative Talents Unleashed: What in your view is the role or responsibility of a writer or poet, if there is any?

Jill: Allow yourself growth…. learn and share from your heart. Be open to constructive
criticism and don’t take life to personally.

Creative Talents Unleashed: What are your ambitions as a writer, where do you hope to see yourself in say 5 years?

Jill: I think as long as I’m on this side of the grass, I will write. Not sure if I will publish
another book…. but I am enjoying submitting work to the many wonderful anthologies that are being published by CTU. Five years, huh? I see myself sitting here writing more and more, poetry and some short stories.

Creative Talents Unleashed: Who is your favorite writer or poet? Perhaps you have a favorite quote from them that you would like to share.

Jill: Rumi.

“Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere, they’re in each other all along.”

Creative Talents Unleashed: What advice would you give to aspiring writers who have dreams of publishing or making writing a career choice?

Jill: Keep writing. Don’t stop to correct, just keep writing. Believe in your work and that
there is someone out there that needs to hear what you have to say. Most importantly,
believe in yourself. Go for it!

About the Book

Between the covers of ‘Lost and Found,’ you will find bits of yourself.  For anyone having travelled life’s long, winding road, where old love wanes, new love waxes while self-love explodes, this collection of prose is meant for you.

The author, Jill N. Pontiere, expresses in her most relatable writing style, what it is to experience mature love. Life is her metamorphosis, where she recognizes that nothing is static.  Throughout her transformation, time enlightened her with higher aspirations for herself; facing squarely, the realities of her love relationships.

An old love had become stagnant, a new, titillating love, was fraught with uncertainties, providing an evocative glimpse into her souls rendering. Life gently urged her to seek out the best love of all.

“There is an awakening beginning to bloom inside my soul,

becoming stronger, which I can no longer control

You really don’t know me, but in time I will be just fine

I will honor these desires with all my might

You really don’t know me, and you know what?

That’s alright.”

Jill N. Pontiere

It turned out that the best love of all, was herself.
