Demons by Daryl P. Hall

When fear threatens to engulf you,
When terror moves into your mind –
An uninvited, strolling stalker
That you just can’t leave behind.

When emotion overwhelms you,
When the tears don’t seem to cease.
When every comfort blanket that you use
Just won’t seem to bring you peace,

When your head feels like its pounding,
Like you’re trapped within a drum.
When all narcotics taken orally
Completely fail to numb.

The thoughts that you have racing,
Distorted views that cause you pain –
All scenarios have credence here,
They rent the room inside your brain.
When every thought of what might have been
Becomes clothed in present tense,
When logic gets all twisted round
Nothing seeming to make sense.
You feel you’re on a roller coaster
On the deadliest of tracks –
Heading headlong towards oblivion,
Now there seems no going back.
Please, remember if you can,
Healing thoughts I send
As you meet again your memories
And greet them like old friends.
It’s just a dark night of the soul –
Satanic schemes to steal the night.
Reality restored on waking up,
You’ll walk again in light.
