Share Love with Literature

This weekend we celebrate love; showering our loved ones with lavish trinkets that sparkle, flowers arrangements of many varieties, and chocolates filled with savory delights. But why should love be given just one day? It should not be forgotten for the rest of the year. Love should be imprinted in our souls with every breath we take. Imagine if everyone on earth would emote love into every word spoken, what a better world it could be. Fortunately for us, love has been seared onto many pages in literature. So if you are not that good with expressing your feelings, there are many resources to give to the one you love throughout the year.

Not everyone can write poetry, but there are a plethora of love poems you can share with your significant other. At the bookstore or Amazon, you can find an entire book of sonnets from Shakespeare, love poems from Pablo Neruda, or Rumi’s book of love. Or you can support and independent writer, like the ones at CTU, who have their collection of love poetry as well.

If you don’t want to buy an entire book, pick one specific poem and get a little creative to make it more personal. On any social media account you can use the #lovepoetry or #lovequote hashtag and many will surface. Print one that looks appealing, maybe using decorative paper and put it in a cute frame. This is not just a gift a mother, spouse or best friend would adore, but a freelance poet/writer would love the idea that his/her poetry is being shared with such affection.

There is also an endless array of romance stories if your loved one likes to read novel. Authors Nicholas Sparks and Krista Lakes have many to choose from. And don’t forget movies. Many love stories from literature have been captured on the screen. Whether it is a gothic tale of supernatural love like Bram Stoker’s Dracula, a Sci-Fi classic of love lost and found again in The Time Machine, or a comedic tale of sisterly love in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants; love and romance can come in many different forms for all to enjoy.

Don’t let these merchants put a limit when to express your love with someone. Surprise a parent, a spouse, a sister or brother, and even a friend or teacher. Let them know they are appreciated all through the year. It doesn’t have to be with gifts of literature. A few simple, kind words can brighten someone’s day. Taking a few minutes to help with a chore can show you care. There are so many ways to be the light in someone’s life. It doesn’t take much effort to show just a little bit of love.
