It came so early,
Evening once seemed so far,
So distant,
But once it came,
The speed was crushing.
I cradled you at the last,
Delicate hands,
Slender fingers
too young to have held my own,
I stroked the tips â
I was afraid of the softness of your palms.
I barely knew you,
Though your story had long been written
In the dreams
And hope of my heart.
We had hours,
Almost a day,
Long enough for me to become
Daddy.
