Food for Thought
Beef serves life in the slam
noodles are shriveled and bagged
the taste of syrup and bread
bologna is fried lonely genetically
preserved fruit bath dirty in a can
These are things I know
The cheese is thick poor born eat
grits the pain grips when the bills
hit coupons make the cashier mad
Faucets pour lead
roof has shaky legs
landlord is slum says his family is moving in
if he smells a rotten egg
Paper and plastic just trash
triggers are pulled fast
crumbs long ago devoured
by the roaches and rats
Living wage for none
two jobs a must
retirement a joke told bad
and the rent is due again
These are things I know,
always have!
