Fly Free – Author Veronica Thornton

Are they really trying to bring you down

or are they trying to make sure you still see the ground

visions of soaring high at least most of us try

if birds can fly why can’t I only a few say you can’t

while others recognize you have wings that expand

and scream encouraging chants

still some sit back and wait

scared to make a move until the populous validates

then there’s the small percent that claims it’s irrelevant

mostly because of their jealousy and resentment

they’re too scared to try trapped by the fear of commitment

keeping their feet firmly planted to the ground

taking shots at those that are air bound

all because they are afraid to fly

clinging to the ground while staring at the sky

everyone’s definitely not like that

some really do have your back

and wish to see you fly free

in hopes that someday you’ll be their inspiration really.

About the Author

Veronica Thornton a.k.a. Vee was always gifted with the art of verbal and written communication although she was never a big talker yet quite the observer and listener.

Vee currently resides in Cleveland, Ohio is a survivor of domestic violence and mother of two. In her youth she wrote notes to herself and others when she could not verbalize what she was feeling. Many thought her writings to be poetic and inspiring in nature. Her empathetic feelings caused her to keep writing later in life as a way to release all the emotions and questions that were presented to her that otherwise remained nonverbal. While most of her writings remained private it was during her educational pursuits Vee was strongly encouraged to pursue a writing career due to her versatility in topics, styles and ability to articulate her thoughts in a clear, creative yet relatable manner.
