The Love Poem by Candace Meredith

She tasted like red velvet

Cake; like strawberry topping.

Her thighs were wrapped around

My body – we embraced

Tightly; she accepted

My engagement – to have

Her hand. We were

Bound to one another

And her feet came

Off the floor

When she leapt into

My arms and we kissed

And didn’t want to stop.

Cheryl was my soul mate;

She had enigmatic eyes

Like a cool pale blue

And exquisite curves

And hair like a feather:

Light and airy.

Her entire physique

Was lean and strong.

And then it happened.

I found myself

In this unfamiliar place –

Vast and airy like her

Body, but it wasn’t her,

It wasn’t Cheryl.

And this body came

Floating; there was

No need for feet

Because we were

Already off the ground.

Cheryl would have liked

It here. She would have fit in

Like I do not; I am the brawn.

I always did the heavy lifting

And when we moved she

Did the decorating. Cheryl

Leaned close to me with

A promise: this is our home

Forever and in this place

Is a means to escape

Where Cheryl would remain

To me to stay young

And I will wait for her

Because when I fell

I only thought

Time does not exist

Here. Her body

Was exquisite; I could

Hold onto her forever

And I do.
