After long, hot days
Of careful breathing
Heaven waited
In the white light
Of believing
The eyes of joy
Would soon shut tight
Around soft wing beats
Of silence in flight,
Still, the earth
Would hold me here
Without a friend
My only comfort
This world of Pretend.
