Shield by Susannah White

The pain hurts so immensely deep in my heart,

so many I’ve loved have picked up the knife –

Taking stabs at me in this thing called life.

A shield of metal is what I shall now put on,

with each blow, the blade shall bend and make

it more strong.

I no longer will see the bad that has happened

to me,

I’ve come to know it’s my choice alone that

controls what I perceive.

Blessings they really are due to what I have

become…

“To put something back together –

It must first come undone.”
