He held a slice there –
teeth ripened with
mango juice, lips
perched top to bottom,
on colors vexing red,
blue, golden shell of
the bruised mango fruit –
difficulty penetrating
to the core:
deep center of the
laden mango. Sharing
little of its essence, I
on the outside, wanting
to be between them, the mango
fruit, in him where I
cannot be.
Ripe, whole, completely
yearning mango fruit
glowing around the contours
of his mouth, like curves
angled toward his loins –
dark, ripened, pungent tropical fruit
devoured beneath ember sun
by a native of Costa Rica
on the beach of Montezuma.
