Writing Tip: Find Your Writing Space

Writing Tip: Find Your Writing Space

You have the correct equipment for your to write effectively, but where do you like to be when you write? You need to find a place where you are comfortable throwing ideas around and can focus on your writing. This place varies from person to person and can also depend on what exactly you are writing. Is your poetry space the same as your novel space? Is your space for creating ideas the same as your writing space?

You will sometimes see people sitting on their own in coffee shops, busy writing in the middle of a crowded place. They might find inspiration in a passing stranger or a scene that they witness. Others feel more inspired by the natural world. They need quiet environments where there is nothing whatsoever to distract them. Others enjoy writing while they’re in a library or traveling or listening to music.

Personally, I cannot work in a crowd or a public space. There’s nothing better than sitting at my desk in my bedroom with a movie or TV show on as background noise (not loud enough for me to become distracted by the volume). At the end of the day, it is all about what you prefer: there’s no such thing as the perfect place to sit down and write. The place where you feel inspired might not be the same place as the one in which you write successfully, which might not be the best place for your to edit your writing.

  1. The perfect space for me is in bed at night, with my head phones and am ready to go.
Still I do not have a perfect writing place, I usually write as I feel. Sometimes the idea come so strongly in the middle of a lecture, when am in church, when am out wth friends and once U wrote a brilliant piece in an all night party. It actually depends on the individual and how the ideas come. Thanks anyway for this brilliant piece. I always enjoy reading your blog everytime.

  2. My comment kinda disappeared. Hopefully it’s my network playing its usual trick.

Am most comfortable writing at night with the lights turned off, lying on my bed, head phones on, beautiful music playing and I just go typing on my phone.
That isn’t a certainty though, as my ideas flood in at different moments. Sometimes in the middle of a lecture, in church, when am at the mall and once at an all night party. Usually I retire to a corner for privacy amd let the words spill out.
I guess there is no one size fits all for ideas to come.
