The Gospel

I can hear the savior singing
From his cross on Calvary
He’s singing to the whole world
I can hear him singing to me

Forgive him father,
he doesn’t understand
Those things he does with his feet and hands

I can hear the savior crying to his father up above
I can hear his tear drops dropping
Falling from the face of love

I can see the nails still piercing
holding him down so tight
From his mouth came no cursing
Our guilt he would not fight

I can hear the veil is tearing
Holy of holies now exposed
Approach him with assurance
Approacher’s no longer foes

I can see the savior’s side tore open
The blood of life falls to the ground
His body hung there broken
His friends came and took him down

I can still hear the echo of his most painful cry
The father turns away from him
I see that he wasn’t just some guy
Jesus had become our sin

I saw them put him in the tomb
And seal it up with a rock
Roman troops stood guarding
Watching around the clock

I saw them dumbfounded on Sunday
Bewildered scratching of the head
Who moved this heavy stone away?
And released Christ from the dead?

I was there when Mary came running
He has rose come look and see
Me and Peter we took off racing
What we heard we couldn’t believe

He’s not here the angle said
Nothing to see here go home
Stop looking for him among the dead

If this is true
Why do me and you
Live as if he is dead?
If he has rose and we’re no longer foes
Then surly there is work to do.

Blessed are those who believe and have not seen.
More than those who have
For the kingdom is theirs to love and to share
May we all wash our feet is this bath.
