She looked in the mirror
at her mediocre self
wondering – why me?
Why this shell of ordinary?
Why this girl – small –
in this enormous world?
It was then
she heard him say –
Because you
amidst the laborious years
the destitute moments
and broken dreams
you
were faithful.
