Loveless by Brenda-Lee Ranta

He was born with a gaping hole

where love should have been

He attempted to fill it with excesses

Money was tinder in his pocket;

the heat of it would ignite,

leaving him with smoldering ashes,

filled with plural apologies to himself

He would stuff consumables into

his salivating mouth,

insulating himself in bacon fat;

his body burgeoning, growing, growing,

unable to move beyond it

Lusting for bodies, he had many,

seeking their comfort, finding none;

just flesh devouring flesh

Faceless, headless women, piling up

He poured liquid spirits down his throat,

burning, burning all the way down,

till he finally puked it back up

He stuck needles into his arms,

poking holes, too numerous to count,

waiting for the nothingness to come;

turning him into swiss cheese

Only a gaping hole remained

where love should have been.
