Once upon a midnight clear,
When the stars were brightly twinkling –
In a clearing in a wood
A young gypsy girl sat thinking.
Time felt at a standstill
As she took her leave outside,
At one with all of nature,
A fox sat by her side.
She was beautiful, a spirit free
That roamed the countryside
Looking for her soul’s connection.
Prepared to search both far and wide
As she sat there clutching roses,
Her favourite flower of choice,
A wistful look upon her face.
She thought she heard his voice
In the whistle on the wind,
That gently called her name.
That softly whispered in her ear:
“It’s OK, I feel the same”
She couldn’t quite believe it.
Once more, she strained her ears
Was it there, that gentle timbre
Allaying all her fears?
He wasn’t there, so close to her
To kiss her hold her tight.
He was far off in the distance,
Perhaps another night.
