One More Time by Tracy Seiden

Her heart beat wildly in her chest a caged bird panting, feathers falling and longing to soar, to fly with this feeling, this new thing singing inside.

Her mind paced back and forth closed behind bars, stalking the perimeter, testing its strength against the fortress before it. Stealthily it paced, shoulders hunched, muscles flexing, its sole focus on that flailing bird set to take them down that road again to him to her future. Her mind couldn’t help but sabotage itself, throwing its weight against the bars and fighting to silence her singing heart. She’d had too many years of failure, too much heartache, too wary to trust this one more time.

How could she let him in? How could she have shared everything? How could she be so vulnerable?

But this time, this time her heart won, bursting free from its cage in fiery glory burning down all resistance. One more time, and one more time again, she would fight for her freedom.
