Satanic Fires by Hugh Dysart

Hear ye! Hear ye! the devoted faithful,

defending love from the vile and hateful

Protect virtue from wicked desires,

purify the fallen in Satanic fires

The wicked, torture you for spite,

shackled to cold, stone walls

Laughing at your shrinking ego,

licking the tears from your feet

It’s words, echo in village squares,

town criers, medieval jesters

Entertaining the pious, the loyal,

bound to deceit, free from forgiveness

Its writings spark funeral pyres,

floating cinders, fidelity in ashes

Mercy drowns in the teardrops,

of a blackened heart

Snakes in her hair, nesting in the garden,

hoods, prayers, rites of condemnation

Virginal sacrament, a chalice in red,

cleanse the wicked in hell

Hear ye! Hear ye! the devoted faithful,

defending love from the vile, the hateful

Protect virtue from wicked desires,

purify the fallen in Satanic Fires.
