Featured Writer: Adam Levon Brown

Voices lash
my brain with straps
of copper stamped zinc
Heaving themselves
upon the senses,
causing confusion,
like Cherry blossoms
which never bloomed,
but grew fangs
and tore the remnants
of a childhood dream
from its Disney Sky
I would tell the voices to be quiet,
but then society would throw
me two cents under the rug
of alienation,
Not only two pennies
for my thoughts gone silent,
but two pennies with intrusive thoughts
who nightmare around street corners,
Afraid of being tossed back
into the wishing well of hospitals
where silence is the only answer
to not being punched and over medicated
I’d rather take those two pennies and
save them in a jar labeled SAFE
And hope with my holy accountant fingers
that one day my Cherry blossoms will bloom rainbows,
which speak to the sky in softer tones,
and do not scream, “Die” at me 12 times a day
