Colors by Billy Charles Root

Earth tone Skin

The human race

Let your colored

Thinking be erased…….

You say

You don’t like black skin

The same color of your car

And then how do you defend

Eating that dark chocolate candy bar?

You think

White skin is the color of trailer trash

But you eat the cream from an Oreo first

And you don’t think that’s crass?

You think

Caramel skin should be illegal

But it’s your favorite color pants

And the big floppy ears on your beloved beagle

You think

Yellow represents things cheaply made

But every morning praise God for the yellow sunrise

And you love freshly squeezed lemonade

Mocha, red, Carmel, black and white

Colors of the earth tone terrain

Your skin my skin dark skin and lite

But we’re all created in Gods image

Right?

All have two arms and legs

Two ears and eyes

Hair on head

And tears flow when cried

All those tears are all the same color

All blood is red and flows through the many colors of human life

Multicolored newborns are kissed by the lips of a mother

Colored thinking brings only strife of Plight

If what we see, is all that’s different

And diversity belongs to the Lord

We must set aside our colored thinking

If we’re ever going to stop this earth tone war
