Shut up and be a MAN by Demitri Tyler

Men’s arms do not swing

Not when walking jogging hailing a cab or turning to leave

Our hands do not hold purses coin pouches hand bags or

anything that may make us feel strange

On the day of the big game we are not tail wagging in the mall drowning in aisles of floral and sequin dresses

Watching you pose or giving our opinion on bra’s with

matching panty sets

Please just grab a pair and go!

Men are straight arrows pouncing tigers swooping hawks

We do not window stop hold up linger or wait

Men shop with military precision strategic mindset

Seek and destroy slip out the back door

Men do not gather

You are always gathering

Our loose socks

Our loose words

Each other

The memories

Men hate memories

Men are not concerned with the color of your nails or the calories you ate

About your girlfriends date

We do not chit chat or blabber we do not gossip or communicate

We do not talk

We won’t talk

You are always talking

So many words

Too many words

We hate words

We never use our words.

About the Author

Writer, orator and activist, Demitri the poet with the Greek name that if translated would read “dedicated to, follower of Mother Earth,” is a rising voice out of San Francisco planting words of wisdom as if seeds beneath the flesh. His talents as a rapper formed his early years gaining him recognition as mc to watch in underground circles with performances at the Upper Room the cities hottest poetry/rap venue at the time as well as his activism in and around the community and state college campuses.

Family tragedy and the realities of life caused this man to hang up his music career and vanish for over ten years but it was time well spent for out of the darkness has emerged a streaking comet who has made the transition from rap to poetry look seamless.
