It seems as if our nation is in chaos and the rest of the world is soaked in turmoil. These are perilous times when people need to find hope; a little glimmer to be reassured that life is worth living. We writers can do our best to get them through the darkness by writing about our own experiences and how we have overcome the many obstacles we have faced. We all have stories to tell about the challenges of life, and there is no better time to share them than when people are feeling discouraged.
So how do we write about hope when we might already be in a situation that seems like thereâs no light at the end of the tunnel? I often look to others who have been on their own difficult journeys. People like Nick Vujicic – a man born without limbs who struggled with his impairments but has created a ministry and became a very well-known motivational speaker. He turned his disability into a victory, for himself and others like him. Coping with life without arms or legs, Nick has endured a brave feat and his story has been an inspiration to many.

All she wanted was to fight for the right to an education for her peers. On October 9th, 2012, Malala Yousafzai was shot in the face on her way home from school by masked gunmen, who were against women wanting the freedom to learn. Thankfully, Malala survived and made it her goal to be an advocate for change. She accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 and continues to speak out for girls around the globe who have been denied such liberties. She never gave up hope and is a voice for so many who donât get the chance to speak out loud.

He was born hearing-impaired, but knew from the very beginning he was going to be a baseball player. Curtis Pride endured teasing from his peers but gained respect by standing up for himself. He was a determined young man and did everything his way, not letting his impairment stop him from living a normal life. He had a prominent career playing with a number of pro-baseball teams and is now a coach. Pride has excelled in the sports world and is the face of encouragement for so many others with the same struggle.

Breaking barriers became the goal for one girl with Down syndrome. Madeline Stuart from Brisbane, Australia has a goal to change how the world sees people with the disability. She is diverting the typical stereotype for young girls becoming the first professional model with Down syndrome to be the face of a cosmetic company, and has many followers on social media following her blossoming career. Maddie is proof that you can do anything you want if it makes you happy, and she is inspiring so many others like her to find their place in society.

Use your trials to bring hope to others today. Someone out there may need to hear an uplifting story to get peace of mind. These are just a few examples of how we can be an influence to those fighting the same battles. Let us write about ways we can change the world one life at a time.
Share your hopeful story in CTU’s next anthology Imperfect Paths. Details on how to submit here.
