School
To see the world through a view-restricting chalkboard
To sit as still as a mouse at one’s arresting desk
To be constantly studied as a participating specimen
To listen to the monotone of intellect
To be prevented from sharing granny’s stories
Because there is no time after Aesop Fables
To be constantly told what one needs to learn
On any given day that time tables
To learn one has failed after one’s best attempt
To have compliance be the ultimate test
To disagree politely and be held in contempt
To be checked and labeled as different from the rest
To be fortunate to be allowed to walk through the door
To learn now that black or white
the board is the same
To be free to integrate with superiority
but be sent to the same seat despite how far we came
To have more questions than answers about the obvious
To use success as a determinant of one’s worth
To ignore one’s needs but spend fortunes on one’s origin
To make learning the most divisive force on earth
