[edit]
Reason for Deletion
Not Educationally Useful

The files do not align with Wikimedia Commons’ purpose of hosting media that supports educational, informational, or documentary needs. Specifically:

  • Non-Adherence to Unicode Standards: Some images and filenames do not adhere to Unicode standards for SignWriting, particularly with facial diacritics. These require a prefix of U+1D9FF in the character sequence or a dotted circle as a placeholder for the head. This misrepresentation risks misleading users about proper implementation.
  • Limited Educational Value of Static Images: Static images of an incomplete font are less effective than dynamically rendering proper Unicode sequences using CSS or other methods, which allow for updates and maintain accuracy.
  • Developmental Issues: The Noto SignWriting font is still under development, with documented design flaws and inconsistencies. An independent review scored the font 6/10, citing readability concerns compared to the International SignWriting Alphabet 2010. The reviewer has started logging issues on the font’s GitHub page.
  • Maintenance Burden: As the Noto SignWriting font evolves, these files will require reviewing and potentially recreating over 30,000 images, an impractical and unsustainable task.

Proposed Alternative

Promote the use of CSS or other dynamic rendering methods to display SignWriting using Unicode-compliant sequences. This approach ensures accuracy and flexibility as the Noto-SignWriting font matures. --Slevinski (talk) 19:12, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
