Glimpse of a Shooting Star – Author Hrishikesh Padhye

Ontario, Canada --- In the early hours of February 24th I shoveled a work area out of the snow on my front lawn, set up my telescope and camera, and photographed Comet Lulin as it passed near Saturn. The spikes on brilliant Saturn in the upper left were caused by the lens aperture during the 8 minute exposure. Lulin's green colour comes from fluorescing cyanogen molecules. On this night Lulin was at its closest approach to Earth, roughly 61 million km away. It is now leaving the inner solar system. --- Image by © Steve Irvine/National Geographic My Shot/National Geographic Creative/Corbis

Being plunged into loneliness,
Trying to feel the solace,
One dark winter night,
When skies were covered with a jet black blanket,
fog was making the scenario utterly blurry

Cool wind kept blowing and blowing,
Making me tend to the half felt slumber
Eyes were stalking the skies,
Via layers and layers of dense fog…

Out of the window,
I looked up,
twinkles of the shining little diamonds hit my eyes,
my wandering thoughts encountered that moment of realization,
in which I had thought to be the absolute best,
wished to be invincible…

My heart was echoing voices in the air, my faith was divine and my ears could hear the sound from my inner self,
Motivation was for rising, rising above the storm

I prayed to be my own light,
I urged to be my own voice,
And all of sudden a celestial rocket seemed to come and kiss the earth, it looked like the brightest diamond falling down, was none other than a glimpse of a shooting star…
