Abandoned at birth

mother unknown.

First memories
are a shadowy door
that opens
into the bright light
of a Catholic chapel.

I found no salvation
within
nor
in the many miles
and paths
since.

Can salvation
still be found
at journey’s
end?

I reach for the door.
