~ A Life Time of Love ~
I stood in the presence of love
By instinct, I knew it was a rare,
Unconditional, stood-the-test-of-time love,
As actions spoke volumes;
Walking hand-in-hand
Leaning towards the other
White hair, silver canes
Strolling the parkway path
Both dressed in their Sunday finest
On a Sunday outing
I imagined the trials and tribulations
Their love had conquered
Listened, as her girlish giggle
Brought about an era of innocence
His voice, that of contentment
Flirting with his life-long-love;
The love doves paled in comparison
They too seemed near envious
Watching from branches high
As did the floating swans
Her hat pin caught the sun
Rhinestones flickered and flashed
A stray white curl swirled
Silver lined, it too caught the sun
I imagined once-upon-a-time raven locks
Cascading her backs length
To roll in massive curls about her hips
He, though aged and cane dependent
Walked with a air of dignity
A proud man, his beauty at his side
I imagined he walked in memory
Of a life lived long ago
When he came face to face with destiny
His vows a link in love
As sacred today as long ago spoken
Beneath the shade of an aged Oak tree
An empty bench they found
She, the epitome of gracefulness
He of the ideal husband;
Together their stroll took center stage
So foreign this devotion, love
Bystanders stood in awe
Longing for life lasting love
Dressed in their Sunday best
Sat Mother and Father
Breaking out in song
“Keeper of the stars”
Clutched hands, eyes gleaming
Uninhibited, unashamed
Each singing to the other:
So proud was I
Of both, Father, Mother.
