Wandering in the Wake
The rains came
Washed away my yesterday
Tragedy in torrents
Tore through my paradise
Took my loved ones in her wake
That un-named rage
To my breast clung my babe
Feeding, she had no fear
My arms held her tighter
As I planted my feet deep
As a tree rooted
Together, she and I against the storm;
The over powering need to save her
Saved me…the sea has claimed the others…
This day, natures wrath unleashed
I found my purpose in the chaos
Hold her safe in my arms
The devastation surrounds us
The wasters washed away parts of me
Scattered them to wind, wave and sea:
Sometimes survival hurts as much as death.
