Excerpt from “Pressing On” by Author Billy Charles Root
Good Friday
Without his death what would I be?
I would be a shipwreck lost at sea
A roller coaster closed forever
A broken wing eagle in stormy weather
I would be a car without wheels
A house without foundation
A touch without feel
A one man nation
Without his death what could I be?
Iâd have no hope to hold on to
No better me
A sinner forever
Condemned and Guilty
A bloody nosed boxer down for the count
A horseless rider frolicking about
Without his death what would I sing?
I’d be a banjo with one string or a piano with one tuneless key
A band with no drummer
A voice with no song
A guitar without a strummer
A silent gong
Without his death how would I pay?
I’d be hell bound and havenless
With nothing to say
A credit card with no credit
A down payment with no worth
A bank account shredded
An empty purse
